To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S3W-1347 by Stewart Stevenson on 24 July 2007, what criteria the review by Transport Scotland considered in relation to the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and the Aberdeen Crossrail project.
Answer
I announced the outcomeof the review of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route andthe criteria assessed in my statement to Parliament on 27 June 2007 (
Official Report Col

The Aberdeen Crossrailproject was not reviewed. The North-East of Scotland Transport Partnership is currentlycompleting feasibility work on this proposal. I understand this will be with TransportScotland by the end of summer 2007. We will then be able to decide on the futuredirection of this project.

To ask the Scottish Executive, in light of the announcement regarding the A90 between Balmedie and Tipperty, when the Scottish Government expects any roads project in the North East of Scotland to be completed
Answer
The law in relationto child sex offenders is kept under review as part of the Scottish Government’ssex offender strategy, and we will continue to take whatever further steps are necessaryand appropriate to improve public protection.
Scotland has developed a coherent framework of legalmeasures, initiatives and programmes to improve the monitoring and management ofsex offenders, to enhance public protection and community safety - particularlyfor our children.
We now have a strongcommitment across Parliament to protect our communities from sex offenders. Thatwork has been assisted by a range of experts including Professor Irving and morerecently the Justice 2 Sub-Committee.
The Scottish Law Commissionis currently undertaking a review of the law on rape and sexual offences in Scotland, including sexual offences against children. The commissionis expected to submit its final report to the Scottish ministers later this year.We will determine how best to take forward the Scottish Law Commission’s work whenwe receive their report and draft bill.
