To ask the Scottish Executive whether all patients in the Tayside Health Board area who require the anti-cancer drug Taxotere are receiving this drug.

This information is not available centrally. The treatment of patients with cancer is a matter for specialists experienced in the management of cancer and the question of whether individual patients might benefit from treatment with Taxotere is a matter for the clinical judgement of the specialist concerned.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many probationary police officers from an ethnic minority background leave the police force before the end of their probationary period, as a proportion of the total number of officers leaving during their probationary period.
Answer
Over the past five years, a total of 179 probationary police officers have left the Scottish police service before the end of their probationary period. Two of these were from an ethnic minority background.

To ask the Scottish Executive what discussions it has had with Her Majesty's Government (HMG) about HMG's proposal to introduce a bill to provide protection against discrimination of disabled people in schools and in further and higher education.
Answer
The Executive is working closely with the UK Government to ensure that planned legislation to implement the education recommendations of the Disability Rights Task Force report will fully address the needs of disabled pupils and students in Scotland.

To ask the Scottish Executive what implications the new bill to provide protection against the discrimination of disabled people in schools and in further and higher education proposed by Her Majesty's Government will have on the current Standards in Scotland's Schools etc. Bill.

A consultation is underway seeking views on how the education recommendations of the Disability Rights Task Force should be taken forward in a UK Bill. With one exception, the measures proposed to be included within the UK Government's Special Educational Needs and Disability Rights in Education Bill, as they relate to Scotland, are reserved.

To ask the Scottish Executive what representations it made to the Governor of the Bank of England on the effect on the Scottish economy of the current level of interest rates and the current strength of sterling during his recent visit to Scotland and what response it received.
Answer
I accompanied the First Minister, the Deputy First Minister, and the Minister for Finance to a lunchtime meeting with the Governor and other representatives of the Bank of England during their recent visit to Scotland. A number of issues of mutual interest were discussed.Decisions on interest rates are a reserved issue, taken independently by the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee to meet the UK Government's inflation target. The UK Government does not have an exchange rate target. The Bank of England Act 1998 provides that regional and sectoral information should feed into the Monetary Policy Committee's decisions. The Bank has a well-established agency in Scotland, which gives it a first-hand, up-to-date account of economic conditions here. The Scottish Executive has regular contacts with the agency.

To ask the Scottish Executive what action is planned to address depopulation in Dundee.
Answer
The continuing trend of population decline in Dundee is a cause for concern for the Scottish Executive. The Scottish Executive through the Enterprise Network is committed to tackling the causes of population decline. The local enterprise company, fully recognises the problem of depopulation in Dundee and they are engaging with their partners in the public and private sectors to address the causes of decline. They expect a gradual reversal of this trend and a stabilisation of the population over the forthcoming years. The Scottish Executive also recognises the importance of building strong and sustainable communities and has recently confirmed its continuing support for the four Social Inclusion Partnerships operating in Dundee. The Scottish Executive is providing funding of £3.6 million to the four SIPs in the current financial year and is aware that these SIPS have been making good progress in tackling the problems of social exclusion.
