To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will consider a moratorium on the construction of TETRA masts until the health implications are fully understood.
Answer
The most authoritative assessmentsof the scientific evidence available to date have concluded that it is unlikely that the special features of the signals from TETRA installations pose a hazard to health. The TETRA mobile communications system has been adoptedby the emergency services in the UK because of its demonstrable advantages for the securityand efficiency of the services that they provide. The Scottish Executive thereforedoes not believe it appropriate to consider a moratorium on the construction ofTETRA masts on the grounds of public health.
