To ask the Scottish Executive what support it gives to Scottish organisations working with deaf people in respect of issues regarding new interpretations of the guidelines for the Access to Work scheme.

To ask the Scottish Executive what action it can take if it becomes aware of differences in the application of UK-wide benefits and services which disadvantage people in Scotland.
Answer
UK welfare benefits and services are a reserved matter andtheir application is standardised across the UK. If there was evidence of differencesin the application of benefits and services which disadvantage people in Scotland, thereare mechanisms in place to allow appropriate dialogue to take place between the Scottish Executive and Whitehall departments.

To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answers to questions S2W-27562 and S2O-10418 by Lewis Macdonald on 21 August 2006 and Mr Andy Kerr on 21 August and 7 September 2006 respectively, what studies it has undertaken in order to arrive at the conclusion that there is no evidence to suggest that there has been an increase in public disorder since the introduction of the ban on smoking in enclosed public places.

To ask the Scottish Executive what extra resources it will receive from the UK Government, in light of the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s statement on 13 February 2006 that a further £135 million will be provided for regional intelligence and investigation, resulting in an additional investment of £230 million across the United Kingdom by 2008.

To ask the Scottish Executive what steps it is taking to secure extra funding for the increased security measures implemented nationwide in the wake of the recent alleged terrorist plot.
Answer
We are committed to ensuringthat police in Scotland have adequate resources to assist in combating terrorism.In June this year the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) announcedthe appointment of a Counter Terrorism portfolio holder who will examine the wayCounter Terrorism policing is delivered in Scotland in order to ensure bestvalue in terms of structure and funding. If any additional funding is deemed tobe necessary, it will be considered in the forthcoming Spending Review in 2007.
