To ask the Scottish Government what action it takes to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
Answer
Our whole Zero Waste approach recognises the value of materials and the need to waste less and recycle more. We are taking decisive action on several fronts.
The Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 are driving a step change in recycling and keeping materials out of landfill.
We are investing in food waste collection - with 18 local authorities now offering some separate collections and more on the way.
And we are making it easier for businesses and public bodies to cut overheads and reduce waste by establishing Resource Efficient Scotland as a one-stop-shop for material and energy efficiency support.

To ask the Scottish Government whether personnel from the social work department of any local authority have been involved in the transfer of asylum-seeking families with children to or from the Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre since 1 May 2010 and, if so, on how many occasions and on what dates.
Answer
The Scottish Government does not hold this information centrally, however, we are seeking to establish the position and, if possible, will share this information with the member at the first opportunity.
The Scottish Government, remains opposed to detaining any children of asylum seekers anywhere in the UK, including those who may be transferred from Scotland, and urge the UK Government to end this practice immediately.
I would like to also take this opportunity to reassure you that my officials will be monitoring the position and will continue to reaffirm our opposition to the forcible removal of children and dawn raids.

To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S3W-33599 by Michael Russell on 27 May 2010, what information it has received from the UK Government regarding the ending of detention of children and dawn raids following its letters to the Home Secretary and the Minister of State for Immigration dated 18 May 2010 and 20 May 2010 respectively.
Answer
Responses were received on 26 May 2010 and 9 June 2010 in response to the letters sent to Theresa May and Damian Green. One of these responses sets out that the UK Government ended the overnight detention of families with children at Dungavel House on 19 May 2010.
The current position, however, is that children from across the UK are detained at a secure facility in West Sussex pending deportation.
