Former First Minister Alex Salmond sitting in the Debating Chamber

Following the death of former First Minister Alex Salmond, a book of condolence has been opened at the Scottish Parliament to allow visitors to pay their respects. Visitors can leave their messages, which will be sent to Mr Salmond's family, in a book in the Parliament's Main Hall.

Presiding Officer Rt Hon Alison Johnstone MSP said: "On behalf of The Scottish Parliament, on the sad news of the passing of Rt Hon Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland from 2007 to 2014, my most sincere condolences to his wife Moira, his family and friends at this difficult time."

For those who are unable to visit the Parliament building, an online book of condolence is available. Comments left online will be collated and sent to Mr Salmond's family.

Members of the public are also able to leave their condolences via the Scottish Parliament's switchboard which can be contacted via our free number 0800 092 7500

All messages of condolence will be reviewed by the SPCB before being sent to Mr Salmond’s family. Contributors are asked to avoid adding comments which may be considered offensive, upsetting, or political in nature.
