A motion to agree Mr Hamilton’s appointment will be considered by the Parliament on Wednesday 28 June.
Mr Hamilton is set to succeed Daren Fitzhenry who has held the position since 2017 and completes his term of office in October this year.
The appointment is for a fixed term of six years. The starting salary is £77,260.
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 provides for a Scottish Information Commissioner whose role is to promote and enforce the freedom of information regime.
The Commissioner investigates applications from people seeking disclosure of information and issues legally enforceable decisions; promotes good practice amongst public authorities and provides the public with information on their rights.
The appointment follows an open recruitment process. The Commissioner’s office is based in St Andrews, Fife.
