Falkirk's First Froebel Flagship

  • Submitted by: Michelle Thomson, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 03 July 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13838

That the Parliament celebrates the success of the Inchlair Early Learning Centre (ELC) in Stenhousemuir, which has become the first in Falkirk district to achieve Froebel Flagship status; recognises that this achievement, which was awarded on 11 June 2024, is a result of almost two years of dedication and commitment by Inchlair ELC staff to adopt and promote the Froebel principles; understands that these principles, developed by Friedrich Froebel, propose that children learn through doing and experience and, to this end, Inchlair ELC provides real-life experiences through its rich core provision, including marvellous meals, block play, creativity, clay, sewing and engaging with nature; further understands that, through observing and evaluating play, Inchlair ELC staff provide challenging experiences to develop children’s skills, inspire their curiosity and allow them to explore the world around them, enhancing language, creativity and problem-solving skills, developing balance and coordination while learning about their own capabilities, and building emotional resilience through trial and error as they play and learn; congratulates all of the staff team at Inchlair ELC on achieving Froebel Flagship status, and wishes them every success in enriching the early years of many more children for generations to come.
