2024 Glasgow Mela in Kelvingrove Park

That the Parliament recognises the success of the 2024 Glasgow Mela in Kelvingrove Park; understands that the Mela is Scotland’s largest multi-cultural festival and that around 40,000 attendees enjoyed a day of free music, dance and arts; notes that the Mela festival is a South Asian celebration of Glasgow’s diverse communities, the word "Mela" meaning "gathering" in Sanskrit; understands that the festival has grown since the first Mela in 1990 to now, attracting thousands of visitors and a variety of performers from around the world; further understands that the 2024 Mela was headlined by the legendary Apache Indian, and featured performances from award-winning Punjabi rapper, Roach Killa, Scottish DJs, Gtown Desi and Rameet Sandu, and a special reunion of the original bhangra rockers, Bombay Talkie; understands that there was the opportunity to sample food from around the world, try various sporting activities and visit a range of market stalls, and commends all involved in putting the festival together to make a fantastic day of celebrations in the setting of Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park.
