To ask the Scottish Executive how many legal actions have been taken out against traffickers of women and children since March 2004.
Answer
Section 22 of the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2003 makes it an offence to traffic in prostitution and came into force on 27 June 2003. No charges have been reported to Procurators Fiscal under this section since that date.Section 25 (1)(a) of the Immigration Act 1971 makes it an offence to assist others to enter the United Kingdom illegally and is much wider in scope than people trafficking. 5 people have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in Stranraer since March 2004 in relation to this section but none of the cases relate to systematic and organised people trafficking.

To ask the Scottish Executive what its strategy is for improving services for adults with autistic spectrum disorders.
Answer
The Public Health Institute of Scotland’s Autistic Spectrum (ASD) Disorders Needs Assessment Report is the strategy for the development of ASD services in Scotland. Last week I launched a key component of this as it relates to adults with ASD, by opening the Glasgow Autism Resource Centre. This is one of three pilot projects designed to develop multi-agency models of service delivery, the lessons of which will be rolled out across Scotland in due course.

To ask the Scottish Executive what action it is taking to meet the needs of (a) children and (b) adults with autistic spectrum disorders who have accompanying mental health problems.
Answer
The National Programme for Improving Mental Health and Well-Being has four key aims of: raising awareness of positive mental health and promoting mental health and well-being; eliminating the stigma and discrimination that can be associated with mental health; suicide prevention, and promoting and supporting recovery from mental health problems.
In relation to children, we have recently published for consultation Children and Young People's Mental Health: A Framework for Promotion, Prevention and Care. This is intended to assist local health, education and social work services in planning and delivering integrated approaches to children and young people's mental health, including for those children and young people with autistic spectrum disorder.
In addition, a national conference on medical interventions for people with autistic spectrum disorders is being planned for later this year. The conference will consider a range of health issues, including mental health problems.
