About the Evidence Session
As part of an inquiry into Preventative Agenda, the Committee has agreed to carry out a one-off evidence session on type-2 diabetes.
This evidence session took place on Tuesday 19th December. The following organisations were invited to attend:
- Diabetes Scotland
- Obesity Action Scotland
- Scottish Food Coalition
- NHS Managed Clinical Networks for Diabetes
- Scottish Diabetes Group
- Local Diabetes UK support group
- Food Standards Scotland
- Professor Falko Sniehotta
- A diabetes nurse - invited via Royal College of Nursing Scotland
- A diabetes pharmacist - invited via the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Scotland
Prior to this session taking place, the Committee issued a short targeted call for views with the following questions:
- To what extent do you believe the Scottish Government’s Diabetes Improvement Plan 2014 and the approach by Integration Authorities and NHS Boards is preventative?
- Is the approach adequate or is more action needed?
- What are the most effective initiatives for preventing Type 2 diabetes?
- Are the services and Diabetes Improvement Plan 2014 being measured and evaluated in terms of cost and benefit?

Following the call for views and the evidence session on 19 December 2017 the Committee wrote to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport on 30 January 2018.
