That the Parliament expresses concern over the continued detention by Turkish authorities of Leyla Güven MP of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP); notes that Leyla is the only remaining incumbent MP who is in jail following the June 2018 elections; understands that she has now been held under pre-trial detention for almost a year; further understands that she is now engaging in a hunger strike against the treatment of the Kurdish leader, Abdullah Ocalan, who has been held in isolation on Imrali Island Prison; recalls that the European Court of Human Rights found the isolation imposed on Ocalan to be a violation of his human rights and the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture has criticised conditions at Imrali, including the isolation of prisoners; understands that Leyla has lost over 15kg and that her health has deteriorated significantly, and that the Turkish authorities are aware of her condition, and calls on Turkish authorities to uphold basic rights to a fair trial, to cease the use of isolation of prisoners and to end what it considers its persecution of the democratic opposition.
