That the Parliament recognises and values the work undertaken by Glasgow’s Helping Heroes in providing Armed Forces personnel, veterans, their families and carers in Glasgow with access to, and support from, organisations across health, housing, social care, employability, financial services and specialist Armed Forces agencies to address any issue that affects them; notes that Glasgow's Helping Heroes was established in 2010 through funding from Glasgow City Council and that its staff are employed and managed by SSAFA, which is Britain’s oldest military charity providing a one-stop service that aims to improve access to, and co-ordination of, advice and support for services personnel; further notes that, since its inception, Glasgow’s Helping Heroes staff have provided support, advice and assistance to over 1,800 clients presenting with a multiplicity of issues, often complex and life threatening; acknowledges that its staff are SSAFA trained case workers and in the unique position of having access to all of the services charities, which enables clients to be supported in circumstances that require financial assistance; understands that the charity recently relocated to the Pearce Institute on Govan Road and will continue to provide a single point of contact gateway model, which will improve local access to a range of services, including financial, housing and employability advice, for its users, and believes that the service will embed the model into local provision, giving confidence and sustainability over the longer term while also raising awareness and understanding of issues affecting services personnel, veterans, their families and carers.
