Oban Times Campaign Wins Campaign of the Year Award

  • Submitted by: Tim Eagle, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 10 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13165

That the Parliament congratulates the Oban Times team on winning the highly regarded Campaign of the Year award at the annual Highlands and Islands Media Press Awards on 2 February 2024; notes that its Invest in the West campaign was launched in July 2023 and has been calling on the Scottish Government to increase funding for Argyll and Bute, Lochaber, and island communities that have reportedly been hurt by recent budget cuts; recognises that this campaign has also called for an improved focus on the specific needs of communities across the West Highlands and islands, such as investments in ferries, transport infrastructure, and affordable housing; understands that the Invest in the West campaign will continue to fight to secure a better investment deal for all local residents and businesses across the region, and wishes editors Susan Windram and Brian Hossack, sub-editors Lesley McKerracher and Marian Milarvie, reporters Fiona Scott, Kathie Griffiths, Finn Nixon and Sandy Neil, and all the rest of the Oban Times team the best of luck with the continuation and success of their campaign.
