The Big Tour, 24 in 2024: Raising Awareness for Prostate Cancer UK and Aerobility

  • Submitted by: Tess White, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 09 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13144

That the Parliament congratulates the four Air Traffic Controllers who embarked on an epic journey to visit 24 National Air Traffic Services and National Air Traffic Solutions Air Traffic Control Units to raise awareness and donations for two charities, namely Prostate Cancer UK and Aerobility; understands that the four Air Traffic Controllers left from Aberdeen Airport and visited National Air Traffic Control Services in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England and Gibraltar, travelling to Glasgow, Prestwick, Belfast City, Belfast Aldergrove, RAF Woodvale, Manchester, RAF Barkston Heath, Stanstead, Luton, London City, Gatwick, Heathrow, Farnborough, Cardiff, MOD St Athan, MOD Aberporth, Bristol, Swanwick, Southampton, Gibraltar, RAF Netheravon and Middle Wallop, before their final stop at National Air Traffic Service Headquarters in Whitley; further understands that the trip was undertaken in memory of a colleague who sadly passed away from prostate cancer; notes that the trip allowed them to raise funds and share awareness of prostate cancer and the work that Prostate Cancer UK does to encourage men to get a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test to help diagnose prostate problems; understands that they also raised funds for the charity Aerobility, which provides the disabled community access to what it sees as the magic and wonder of flight; recognises that they have raised over £30,000 to date, and wishes them well as they continue to fundraise until the official Aerobility Aviator Ball in November 2024.
