Kinross-shire Volunteer Group and Rural Outreach Scheme (KVG&ROS) Wins Age Scotland’s National Award

  • Submitted by: Claire Baker, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 06 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12409

That the Parliament congratulates Kinross-shire Volunteer Group and Rural Outreach Scheme (KVG&ROS) on being recognised by Age Scotland’s national award for 40 years’ service to older people; understands that the scheme provides essential and social transport for people who would otherwise be stuck in their homes, and that the title acknowledges the work that the group has done over the last four decades to help tackle social isolation, provide financial support and independence to members of the community; recognises, and is grateful for the hard work and commitment of the group's 33 volunteer drivers, including David Aird, Rosemary Hudson and Jim Marshal, who, it understands, pick up residents across Kinross-shire, including Glenfarg and all the smaller towns and villages, and take them to essential appointments such as hospital visits, dentist appointments and social outings, often as simple as a trip to the hairdresser or the supermarket; understands that, in 2023, the drivers reportedly completed 2,900 volunteer hours and clocked up 5,000 miles; further understands that the charity has around 300 clients on the books and is doing approximately 170 runs a week and that it works in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council’s Social Work department and the Kinross foodbank, Broke Not Broken; understands that, although many of the clients are elderly, the service is there for anyone who needs it, and extends its very best wishes for continued success to the group in the future.
