The Pride of Fife

  • Submitted by: David Torrance, Kirkcaldy, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 12 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12132

That the Parliament recognises Fife Flyer's participation in the Elite Ice Hockey League’s (EIHL) fourth annual Pride weekend; believes that the annual event started out as a fan-based initiative at the 2019 play-off finals weekend and that it has now become a key event involving all 10 teams to demonstrate that the sport stands up for inclusion and diversity and is a safe space for LGBTQ+ athletes and fans alike; understands that the team wore a special Pride jersey in its game against the Cardiff Devils, designed by Mhorag McDougall and Kirsty Milne, incorporating the original Flyers' navy colour, interlinked with the Pride flag colours to represent equality; further understands that the strips were then auctioned off, with one being donated to The Hive, Kirkcaldy’s LGBT+ centre; commends the ongoing commitment of the Fife team to promoting inclusivity and equality at every Flyers game, and wishes them every success for the future.
